Udupi mourns Dr. Kalam’s passing away

Udupi, July 29, 2015 : Yesterday July 28,   The BJP district unit called a meeting and mourned the former President of India’s death. T.V. Hegde, president of the district unit of the BJP, recalled that Dr. Kalam had played a vital role during the Pokhran nuclear tests. He was the first one to come with a ‘Vision 2020’ for the country and he was greatly revered by one and all for the genuine human that he proved to be.

Manipal University deeply mourned the death of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam former President of India, who died in Shillong July 27.   A condolence meeting was held in the Senate Hall of the University building. Pro-Chancellor of the university H.S. Ballal, Vice-Chancellor H. Vinod Bhat and registrar G.K. Prabhu, heads of institutions and university officials were present.

After a two-minute silence, Dr. Ballal spoke about Dr. Kalam’s visits to the university in 2003 and 2014. He stressed that India has lost a gem of a person, who had a dream for the country – a dream to see India a developed nation by 2020 through an action plan which he advocated.

The students and teaching and non-teaching staff of Poornaprajna College July 28,  mourned Dr. Kalam’s death.   A press release said that A.P. Bhat, Head of the Department of Physics at the College, spoke about the sterling qualities of Dr. Kalam. B. Jagadish Shetty, Principal, recalled the contributions of Dr. Kalam to the country. A  silence was observed on the occasion.
