Udupi boys create kidnap tale to escape parental wrath

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Dec 9: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Panvel safely handed 2 Udupi boys to their respective families. The boys had allegedly run away from home and created a kidnap tale in order to escape parental wrath for failing to submit their homework.

The boys are Shail Ahmed and Rameez Razaq, both aged 15 and both X Std students of Al-Ashan Academic School in Uchilgaon, Udupi. On the morning of Tuesday, they had called up their families from Panvel railway station to inform them that they had been kidnapped by unknown persons when they were going home from school.

According to the boys’ story, they had requested a few men in a Maruti car to give them a lift home. The men knocked them unconscious with a spray. When the boys woke up, they found themselves in a train compartment. They escaped to the general compartment and alighted at Panvel station to inform their parents.

Meanwhile, the boys’ parents had lodged a complaint at the local Padividri Police Station. They told the police that the boys had called them from Panvel. The police immediately requested the Panvel RPF to locate the boys.

Senior Inspector of RPF Anil Nair said that the Udupi police had informed them that two boys in school uniforms must be somewhere in the vicinity of a public telephone booth near the railway station. The entire RPF staff began hunting for the boys near the public telephone booths in the vicinity. Someone informed them that they had spotted a couple of boys in school uniform making a call from one of the booths and that the boys had gone back to the railway station. The RPF staff found the duo sitting on a bench in the railway station.

Anil Nair questioned the boys separately and found that they gave 2 different versions of the kidnap story. He requested the Surat RPF to search for the alleged kidnappers on the train. The RPF couldn’t find anybody, which made Nair suspect that the boys were lying.

When Rajab Mohammed, uncle of Rameez, arrived at Panvel to pick the 2 boys, he informed Mr. Nair that the boys had been bunking classes for nearly 3 successive days. The principal had told them that he would call their parents if they did not submit their homework on time. The boys, therefore, must have decided to run away from home and weave the kidnap story in order to escape the wrath of parents as well as school authorities and gain sympathy.
