Udupi and Byndoor at 77.66% turnout, says Udupi DC

MANIPAL: Udupi DC Hephsiba Rani Korlapati said the district, including Byndoor Assembly constituency which is part of Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency, recorded a voter turnout of 77.66%.

The district had recorded 78.51% of polling in the Assembly election held in 2018. “No untoward incidents were reported and it was peaceful overall,” she added.

Korlapati said that in the four Assembly segments of Kundapur, Kaup, Udupi and Karkala, the voter turnout was 75.91%, while in Byndoor it was 75.23 %. The whole of Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency recorded 75.91% polling.  She added when compared to 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the voter turnout had risen by 1.45%.

She attributed the successful voting in the district to the massive Sveep awareness programmes taken up in the district administration.

Elaborating over the polling percentage in Sakhi polling stations, the deputy commissioner said that the 40 Sakhi polling booths in the district had recorded 72.05% polling, wherein 26,930 voters of the total 37,374 had cast their votes. She said that there were a total of 4 persons with disabilities-friendly polling stations, manned by the persons with disabilities, in the district. The polling booths had recorded a voter turnout of 75.85%.

Emphasising on the ethnic polling booths, Korlapati said that there were three such booths in the district, which had recorded 80.59% of polling.

She said that four tender votes and one challenge vote was cast in the district.

As many as 9,54,030 voters used EPIC to cast their votes while 1,94,670 voters used one of the 11 documents permitted by the election commission to exercise their franchise, Korlapati said.

The excise department had seized 15,921 liters of liquor while police department has seized 11.70 liters of liquor since model code of conduct came into force, she said.

cVigil applications had received 273 complaints and 48 complaints were found to be fake. As many as 211 cases were disposed of within 100 minutes of receiving the complaints.
