Oct 26, 2016: The general body meeting of the taluk panchayat unanimously decided to dissolve Shiriyara gram panchayat, for failing to take up development works.

President Nalini Bhaskar Rao said the decision, approved by taluk panchayat, would be submitted to the zilla panchayat. Shiriyara GP member Nirmala Shetty said the homeless needy who come under Shiriyara GP are deprived of facilities ensured by the government. The gram sabha and general body meeting are not held in Shiriyara GP. The panchayat has not been taking up any development works and does not respond to grievances of the public. It would be great injustice to five thousand populace in the gram panchayat if at all the present governing body continues. Let there be elections to choose the new body, she insisted.

Exec Officer, Sheshappa R said a meeting was held over the lackadaisical approach by the governing body in Shiriyara GP with the taluk panchayat and zilla panchayat members and officials. The zilla panchayat chief executive officer had served a notice to Shiriyara GP to hold a general body meeting within 15 days. But the notice was ignored, he said.

Member Bhujanga Shetty said there is water scarcity in and around proposed Varahi irrigation project. Zilla panchayat vice president Sheela K Shetty said talks are being held regarding the project and fund for the same is yet to be released.
