Kundapur, Aug 29, 2014: Lack of knowledge on legal issues and disrespectful mentality towards law are the reasons for crime, said Udupi district Superintendent of Police Rajendra Prasad. He was speaking at an interaction programme with students at Bhandarkar’s College in Kundapur on Thursday.

The SP further said that the public can follow law and order by having respect to the same, instead of fear.  “The police officials are being trained to build harmony rather than break relations. Several years before, the cases of crime came to light seldom, due to various reasons. But today, the situations have changed and many petty cases come to the police station, he said and added that students should develop their knowledge in legal matters.

Bhandarkar’s Degree College Principal Dr P Narayana Shetty presided over the programme. Kundapur Subdivision ASP C BPatil, City Jaycees (Kundapur) Founder President Hussen Haikadi and others were present.

Students of Degree and PU College interacted with the SP. The issues of disparity with students in government buses, media hype, parents’ role in combating crime, role of students in educational institutions at the time of crime incidents and others were raised by the students and the SP responded to students’ queries.
