Udupi Karavali Junction a life threat

Udupi Karavali Junction a life threat

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, June 30, 2016: Reports from citizens state a huge cavern at Karavali Junction is posing a big threat to people passing through the road, especially two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.  The national highway works undertaken at the place, are delayed due to confusion about the flyover and the underpass.

The knee-level water accumulated in a pond-like structure due to incomplete construction work has rendered the area accident prone. At least four to five motorbikes skid in the area every day, as the riders are unable to see the depth of the potholes.

The rainwater has filled the potholes as well as the channels carved for widening the national highway. Rainfall has disrupted the highway laying work. The electric poles adjacent to the road have slanted as water has created soil corrosion in the area. Riders, drivers and pedestrians encounter new problems every day. Sometimes, the tyres of the two-wheelers get stuck in water and the riders have to struggle to get them out from the slush.

Adding to this, traffic congestion is also created with a number of vehicles passing through the junction which comprises four road junction leading towards Udupi town, Malpe, Kundapur and Mangaluru. The existing temporary roads are overcrowded as the space is not sufficient for smooth movement of vehicles.

Activists requested both the district administration and the city municipality council to ensure that the highway construction works gets over before the onset of monsoon. The work should be completed by December and January. The officials are blind and deaf.
