Udupi Dist Hospital to set up burns ward

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Feb 27, 2015: A separate state-of-the-art burns ward is being constructed at the Udupi district hospital to be ready by April 2015.  The ward is being built under CSR programme of BEL, Bengaluru, at a cost of Rs 75 lakh.

The project is at the initiative of district Lions Club. The ward is situated on the floor above the senior citizen’s ward with an area of 3,500 square feet.  The ward will have 12 beds, 6 each for male and female. The ward will be air conditioned.   The salary to the staff will be provided by the interest obtained by the revolving fund of Rs 25 lakh deposited in the bank. Also, the maintenance will be done with this amount.

The district hospital had no separate burns ward, after Udupi was announced as the district. The patients with burns were sent to Wenlock hospital, which caused inconvenience to people as it is dangerous to transport the patients with serious burns. With the commissioning of new burns ward, the problem will be solved to a great extent.

District Surgeon Anand Naik said that the BEL and Lions Club have taken a novel initiative. The construction of the burns ward is almost complete. The installation of equipment will also be completed soon. The service will be uninterrupted as there is sufficient fund which will be utilised for maintenance, equipment and also to pay salary to employees.
