Mangalore, July 21, 2014:  As per reliable reports,  Tulunada Rakshana Vedike has called for a bandh of schools and colleges, across Dakshina Kannada district, on July 22. The members of Vedike will also organise  protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office, in Mangalore,  at 11 am,  on July 22.

Addressing a press conference July 19, Vedike Adviser M G Hegde said that there is sudden increase in atrocities  against women in the State, the political parties and people’s representatives have failed to take any precautionary measures. Political parties point fingers at each other and political leaders who had contested and won elections are not seen and do not hear the woes of public. They may be waiting for  more to happen in the district.

He alleged that politicians put pressure on police not to file FIR or file charges under some particular sections according to their whims. “People also have responsibility. Parents should teach local language to their children so that they can communicate with the people properly during emergency. The family of the rapist should not support him at any cost. If they do so, that family should face social boycott,” he said and added that bandh is not a solution, but it is a small effort to awaken those who are sleeping and in their own interest.
