Tourists in Nepal from Dakshina Kannada safe - Quake

Mangaluru: Nine tourists from Dakshina Kannada, who had been to Pokhara in Nepal, are safe and on their way back to Nagarkot. Vathika Pai from Nirmala Travels said nine persons from different parts of the district had left Mangaluru a few days ago to Pokhara, which is about 80 km from the epicenter of earthquake in which more than 100 died on Saturday.  The nine tourists were to leave Pokhara and reach Nagarkot by road.  Efforts were made to contact these  tourists in the morning but were not reachable. In the afternoon a call was  received  from the guide accompanying the tourists that they were safe and would reach New Delhi by April 29.   Another group of 30 tourists to Pokhara,  safely landed in New Delhi. 

According to a report, 2 buildings of Manipal College of Medical Sciences, a unit of Manipal Education and Medical Group, located at Pokhara suffered cracks due to the earthquake. But there has been no loss of life.

According to another report of a group of 10 persons from Mangaluru, they are well but stranded in Nepal, where  earthquake caused serious problems and claimed hundreds of lives.  A group of 10  had gone for trekking to Nepal last week and supposed to return on April 29.  Now it is learnt they are stranded at Yeti Mountain Hotel in Thame, Nepal. They have to get to Lukla to get back, but they have no mode of transportation.  They have called for assistance from the Indian embassy in Nepal.  Relatives in Mangaluru said that all of them are safe and have enough food to last three days and await arrangements out of the town.
