Mangaluru, July 30, 2015 : In a media release,  M. Subramanyam, Commissioner of Central Excise and Service Tax, Mangaluru, said Central Excise and Service Tax Commissionerate has been granted the Service Quality Management Systems (SQMS) Certification Licence for IS 15700: 2005 by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

The licence also covers the Central Excise and Service Tax divisions at Mangaluru and Udupi as well as range offices located at Mangaluru, Udupi, Bantwal, Puttur, Kundapura, Karkala, Karwar and Dandeli.

Tax commissioner Subramanyam said the BIS undertook an elaborate audit of the entire process of implementation of Sevottam and on being satisfied that the implementation standards in Mangaluru commissionerate are the best, the Bureau granted the final licence for a period of three years, up to May 18, 2018.

The service deliverables covered in the licence are acknowledgement of written communication, conveying of decisions on matters, releasing of non-required seized documents, acknowledgment of grievances, etc. He said the Central Board of Excise and Customs had taken an initiative, Sevottam, to deliver quality service to citizens as per SQMS standard IS 15700:2005 of the BIS, leading to the award of the ’Sevottam’ symbol of excellence to public service organisations. The standards require a public sector organisation to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide effective and efficient service meeting customer requirements, as well as other statutory requirements.
