Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, June 29,2017: It is reported that an official stated that   Dakshina Kannada Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd (DKMUL) members due to   technical glitch in seeding Aadhaar with bank accounts, subsidy amount of Rs 8 crore could not be credited to the accounts of milk producers coming under it.  The officer was speaking at the district consultative meeting for banking development on June 28, Wednesday.

At the meeting chaired by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, the official said, "There are 73,000 beneficiary farmers with the DKMUL. About 14,000 beneficiaries are facing problem in linking their accounts to their respective Aadhaars.

"Although bank officials have given letters stating that the accounts have been linked with Aadhaar, when the DKMUL tries to transfer the amount, we are getting a message on failure to link Aadhaar."

Branch-wise list : Lead Bank Manager Raghava Yajamanya, in response, directed the DKMUL official to make a bank branch-wise list of the beneficiaries who are facing technical glitch in seeding Aadhaar and verify it with bank branches.

Further, Zilla Panchayat deputy secretary Umesh said that Aadhaar-seeding of bank accounts of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) beneficiaries have not been completed in the district.

Out of 93,000 accounts, Aadhaar-seeding has been completed with 50,000 accounts only. The failure to do so will affect direct benefit transfer of MGNREGS wages to beneficiaries, said the deputy secretary.

At this, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel directed the bank officials to accelerate the work on Aadhaar-seeding. If they face any problem with multiple accounts, then they can take the help of the panchayat development officers (PDOs) or village accountants in the rural areas for verification, suggested the MP.

Expresses displeasure : Kateel expressed displeasure at bankers failing to distribute RuPay cards to Jan Dhan account holders in the district. There is lack of awareness among the self help group members and public on keeping the RuPay cards active. As on March 31, 2017, a total of 3,68,562 Jan Dhan accounts have been opened in the district.

Also, 2,77,401 RuPay cards have been issued, of which 2,26441 RuPay cards are active.

As the bankers failed to furnish latest data on Prime Minister’s Mudra Yojana, Prime Minister’s Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, and Prime Minister’s Suraksha Bima Yojana StandUp India scheme, the MP Kateel directed the lead bank manager to convene another meeting on July 14.

Increase CD ratio : Banks in the district have been asked to improve their credit-deposit (CD) ratio. Syndicate Bank DGM N S Somayaji said that the CD ratio as on March 31, 2017, was 55.40%.

"The credit off take of the banks needs to be improved to reach minimum bench mark of 60% and called upon the banks to adopt strategies to improve the CD ratio during the ensuing quarters. The market share of the district in the state in terms of deposits is 5.03% while in terms of advances it is 3.82%," he added.

Lead Bank manager Raghava Yajamanya said that the overall percentage of achievement under annual credit plan 2016-27 is 97.15% to the annual target.  The percentage of achievement under secondary sector is 260.50% to the annual target.
