Students’ body protest against MU for Amit Shah event, vested interests

Mangaluru, Aug 21, 2016: It is reported that protesting for Mangalore University renting out its Mangala auditorium in the campus for a programme to be addressed by Amit Shah, national president of the BJP, on Aug 21,Sunday, the All College Students’ Association has written to Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi that action is must against the university.

The BJP has organised the 70th Independence “Balidana Smarane” programme in the campus. Amit Shah will flag off the tiranga rally from Pumpwell in the city on Sunday at 10.30 a.m. It will end at the campus where Amit Shah will address a gathering at 11.30 a.m.

Also BJP’s Amit Shah will garland freedom fighter Rani Abbakka’s statue at Ullal at 11 a.m. According to Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, the programme will be an apolitical one and no flags and symbol of BJP would be used in both the rally and programme in which contributions of Abbakka and other freedom fighters would be recalled.

Addressing media here on Saturday Dinakar Shetty, president of the association said that the university has granted permission for organising a “political programme.”   The university should not encourage such programmes on this campus. He said that the association has written to the Minister to this effect. The government should take action against those who gave permission for it.

He said that the university could have permitted the programme if it would have been attended by the Prime Minister.   Shetty said that earlier the university denied permission to the association for organising “Gandhi tatvada kadege vidyarthigala nade” programme in the campus. It also denied permission to the association to organise its inaugural programme in the University College, a constituent college of the university, in Mangaluru. It appeared that now the university has granted permission for a political programme bowing to external vested considerations.
