Students’ Union calls for university bandh on Jan 28

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 28: The MCJ students of Mangalore University are not happy about the Syndicate’s decision. They had withdrawn their strike for a brief period following MP Nalin Kumar Kateel’s visit to Mangalore University. The MP urged the Syndicate to meet again and discuss the issue. The students had said that they would start the agitation afresh if their demands were not met.

Accordingly, the Syndicate met on Wednesday and requested the students to call off their agitation and go back to class. It also requested Umeshchandra to refrain from teaching and promised to make alternative teaching arrangements for the students.

Apparently, the Syndicate’s decisions are not acceptable to the students as it does not solve their problems. They resumed their hunger strike on Jan 27. Moreover, the Students’ Union of Mangalore University has called for a University  Bandh on Jan 28.

Simultaneously, the Union of Dakshina Kannada District Scheduled Castes and Schedules Tribes Organizations staged a protest against the protesting students in front of the University building. These organizations even opposed the visit of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and the Syndicate meeting, which was held on his behest.
