Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru :  It is reported that  Dakshina Kannada unit of the DYFI - Democratic Youth Federation of India, accused  vested interests, including people from the sand mafia, have been making all efforts to get Mangaluru Rural Police Inspector Pramod, who has been tackling illegal sand extraction in the jurisdiction, transferred.

DYFI president in a press release, said attempts were being made at the highest level of the government to transfer Inspector Pramod.  He alleged that two MLAs representing areas in Rural Station were involved in attempts to transfer the officer.  If the attempts are not immediately stopped, the DYFI will be forced to launch an agitation.

There has been rampant illegal sand extraction from the Netravati in Adyar, Kannur, Valachchil and surrounding areas.  The miners threaten people and extract sand using machinery. The sand is being transported to other States too.  Inspector Pramod was able to curb these illegalities besides curtailing anti-social elements. He has converted the police station to a people-friendly place.
