State-level Konkani literary meet to commence from Aug 23

July 21, 2014: Konkani Literary and Cultural Sammelan (Konkani Sahitya Samskrithi Sammelan), a state level meet, will be held at the RSB Bhavan in Manipal on August 23 and 24, as per reports released. Convener Kasaragod Chinna said that the meet aims at the development of literary and cultural aspets of Konkai communities. Fourty one communities speaking Konkani language will take part in the convention.

Konkani literary seminars, poets’ meet, play, and cultural programmes will be held during the Sammelan. Konkani novels and anthologies of Konkani poems would be released. A Konkani book exhibition will be held at the venue. Konkani cuisine would be on display along with painting expo. The inaugural programme will have prcession of around 20 artistes’ troupes. The procession will begin from Syndicate Circle and culminate at the venue of the Sammelan.

Noted writers Jayant Kaikini, S M Krishna Rao and B Gopalakrishna Pai, will participate in the Sammelan.  Konkani singers such as Puttur Narasimha Nayak, Mahalakshmi Shenoy and others too will participate. Veteran journalist M V Kamath had been chosen as the President of the Sammelan.

The logo of the Sammelan was released here by the Honorary President of the Organissing Committee Chempi Ramachandra Bhat.  The meet is expected to get neded response from the Konkani community.
