State govt to establish schools for migrant labourers’ children

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Sep 29, 2014: The State government has agreed to establish school, exclusively for migrant labourers’ children in each district of the State. The school will follow central syllabus, providing  quality education to labourers’ children. Besides, a community centre in each district, catering to labourers’ needs, like conducting marriage, other functions etc has also been approved, informed KPCC labour cell President S S Prakasham.   Speaking to press persons at DK DC office here on September 27, he said that Rs 10 crore has been set aside for each school and an equal amount for constructing community centre. The ambitious project which will provide a huge fillip to labour class’s welfare  faces identifying land as the major hurdle.

In Dakshina Kannada, we have requested district-incharge minister Ramanath Rai to identify land for the same, Prakasham said.

Further, he said that the scattered workers in the unorganised sector which caters to more than 60 per cent of the total work force, is a perennial problem and KPCC labour cell had started focussing on this area. “Our members have started enrolling unorganised workers in their particular area of working, so that they can avail various government schemes. The mustering of other state migrant labourers, especially in construction field has also started,” he said.  KPCC labour leaders Naseer Mutt, Amir Ahamad, Ashok Bidar among others spoke.
