Bantwal, Jan 6: The congress committees of Panemangalore, Bantwal, and Vittla organized a protest in front of the taluk office in BC Road on Jan 5, Tuesday. The protestors condemned the BJP government for its failure to keep its promises.

B Ramanath Rai, MLA and president of Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee, made a speech in which he  accused the BJP of gaining power by making empty promises. He said that BJP’s promises of distributing ration cards and sites for houses have so far remained unfulfilled.

UT Khader, the MLA of Mangalore, labelled the chief minister as “shameless.” He alleged that the members of the state cabinet are prepared to do anything to retain their positions of power. They have even gone so far as to claim a number of central government schemes as their own.

Bondala Jagannath Shetty, the former president of the District Youth Congress, noted that the state government had declared that it would fix areca nut prices; however, whenever media persons questioned them about the issue, the MPs made excuses and promised that the prices would be fixed the following Friday. Mr. Shetty said that 19 Fridays have passed, but the government has still done nothing.

A number of leaders were present. The protestors submitted a memorandum to the state governor through the taluk tahsildar.
