Soumya was murdered for money, allege bereaved parents

Mangalore, Jan 11: The family of Soumya, a native of Padavinangady, who allegedly shot herself dead in Ghana, West Africa, now believes that she had been murdered by her husband for dowry. 










Soumya allegedly committed suicide by shooting herself on Dec 28, 2009. She was married to Prem on Dec 31, 2008. She stayed in her in-laws’ house for a brief period before going to Africa. She complained of harassment and torture during her brief stay at her in-laws’ house. During her telephonic conversations with her parents, she had revealed that her husband Prem was regularly harassing her and even physically torturing her for dowry. 







The absence of Prem, his family members, as well as his relatives during the postmortem at the District Wenlock Hospital Mortuary and also his decision to stay back in Africa instead of accompanying his wife’s body to Mangalore is quite shocking. 

The victim’s relatives are quite sure that Soumya was killed because she did not satisfy her husband’s dowry requirements. They allege that it is a case of dowry killing. 

Moreover, Prem refused to answer his father-in-law Achyuth Poojary’s calls in spite of his repeated attempts to contact Prem after he received information about Soumya’s death from Prem’s family members. 

Soumya’s body was brought to Mangalore on Jan 11, Monday.
