Mangalore, Jan 12: The CD “Jarasandha” and book “Maravathara” by Shambhu Hegde were released at the Keremane Shambu Hegde Memorial Ceremony organized at Town Hall on Jan 11, Monday.


Ananthakrishna, the chairman of Karnataka Bank, released Shambhu Hegde’s CD “Jarasandha” and said that Yakshagana must flow from the Keremane family to the future generations. The Badagathittu form of Yakshagana, which continued from Shambhu Hegde must remain alive and continue from generation to generation, he said.

M Mohan Alva, the president of Alva’s Education Foundation, released the book “Maravathara” and said that, besides being a good artist and director, Shambu Hegde was a great organizer too. His contributions created a strong liking for Yakshagana among the people. For a Yakshagana artiste, the Badagathittu as well as the Tenkuthittu forms of art are like two eyes. He kept these forms of art alive within the family and, therefore, deserves appreciation, he said. 

Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, the president of Kannada Sahitya Parishad, presided over the function. Keremane Shivanand Hegde, the director of Sri Idagunji Mahaganapathi Yakshagana Mandali, welcomed the guests and the gathering.


Kumble Sundar Rao, the president of the Yakshagana Academy; Harikrishna Punaroor, the former president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishad;  H Shridhar Handhe; Hosathota Manjunath Bhagavath; Prabhakar Joshi; Bhuvaneshwari; Dr Vasanth Bharadhwaj; and Narasimha Bhat Kollur were the guests on the occasion.
