Mangaluru, May 21, 2017: Reports say that unknown persons have disappeared with 325 kilogram sandalwood worth Rs 6 lakh from zonal forest office storage located at Hoige Bazar in Bolar in the city on May 18, Thursday night. The thieves  are said to have stolen the logs seized by the forest department in connection with 15 separate cases and kept in safe custody.

The culprits broke locks and gates of the office to steal the logs kept in storage  Mangaluru sub zonal forest officer M Venkateshwara lodged a complaint at Pandeshwar police station on the incident after it came to light on May 19,  Friday.  Two security guards were deputed to guard the storage at night however both used to return to their home locking the stores, sources said. About ten years ago, a huge amount of sandal wood was stolen from the same office and the police arrested the culprits it is learned.
