Mangaluru, Sep 26, 2016: Among the measures to be taken by the city police during the Road Safety Week starting today Sept 26, Monday, City bus operators will be asked to display route charts near the doors of their vehicles. Drivers and conductors will also be given orientation of traffic rules and discipline by the city police.

The week, starting today, is being observed to mark the first anniversary of the Mangaluru Traffic Warden, which started functioning in October 2 last year.  At a meeting held at the office of the Commissioner of Police on Sept 25,Sunday, DCP,  Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) M. Sanjeev Patil said that city bus operators would be asked to display laminated route charts. This will help commuters complain if the bus skips stops. The laminated route charts are being prepared and will be available soon.

It is hoped that public demands for notices regarding ’spitting from buses’ ’Senior Citizens seats’ and so on will also be introduced, as vital.

DCP Patil said the police would also hold an orientation programme for drivers and conductors on traffic rules and discipline. On Monday, the police will give the Mangaluru City Corporation a list of bus bays that need to be moved away from the traffic junctions.  DCP Patil said the police would encourage people to join the Traffic Warden group.
