Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 21: Additional Sub Inspector R Ramesh said that strict action will be taken against motorists and riders who make use of mobile phones while driving or riding. A notice will be sent to the offenders within two days and they will be penalized in two weeks. He was responding to a query during the valedictory function of the Road Safety Week organized on Tuesday.

Interceptor vehicles have already been introduced within the district in order to identify offenders and take action against them. An appeal has been submitted to the government to provide another interceptor vehicle. If the government provides new vehicles, the facility can be extended to other taluks.

The SP said that the major factor responsible for the rise of accidents is lack of coordination between law and order, education, and engineering sectors. The roads are constructed by the engineering sector. The police department has the handle its effects. The education department ought to enhance road safety awareness. However, these 3 sectors function independently of each other.

He also said that the department plans to use CC cameras to indentify vehicles that do not follow the traffic laws. The plan will be implemented as soon as the road concretization project concludes.

Dr. M Shantharam Shetty, the vice chancellor of NITTE University and others were present during the valedictory function.
