Karkala, July 18, 2017: It is to be noted that residents of Aiyappanagara in Kukkundur village in Karkala taluk staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office here, against the setting up of liquor shops in the village

Forwarding a memorandum to Udupi DC the representative of the group, charged that some politicians, using their influence, have set up the liquor shop in the residential area. Kukkunduru and Aiyappanagara villages, here  poor class working as the daily wage workers exist. The opening of liquor outlets leads to uncivil  and anti-social activities in the vicinity. This is an opportunity created to support the chaos in the area. The permission issued to the liquor shops is unconstitutional it is said.

The village will be the area for fights and peace will be affected, the group maintained and urged the district administration to cancel the licence issued to the liquor shops. Families have children here and the atmosphere will be polluted due to this negative action.

The liquor shop is near to schools, anganwadis, temple, Bhajana Mandir and bus stop and is slowly showing all signs of disturbances in the area. The public in the area strive to develop the village by organising various moral activities, including alcohol de-addiction camps. The people are totally against the liquor shop, it is demanded that the district administration should immediately take measures to cancel the licence of the shops was prayed for.
