Ration card discrepancies will be resolved: Halappa

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 5: H Halappa, the minister for food and civil supplies, said that ration card discrepancies will soon come to an end owing to the facility of computers with camera, which will be installed in Karnataka’s 176 taluk centres.

The plan will be implemented on a test basis in 44 taluks including DK, after which it will be implemented in other taluks too, Halappa informed reporters. All the errors in the distributed cards will soon be corrected. 20,000 more ration cards will be distributed in DK, he said.

Currently, the state government is distributing ration to 1.6 crore families; but the centre is releasing ration for only 32 lakh families. The state lacks a proper act to control the price of rice. As of the now, the state has the power to only control rice shortage, not rice prices.

The central government ought to formulate acts in this regard; and the state government is ready to cooperate with the central government. Currently, the state government plans to extend Anthyodaya card facility to BPL card holders, which will enable them to obtain rice at the rate of Rs 2 per kilo and wheat at the rate of Rs 2 per kilo, he assured.
