Udupi, Mar 06, 2015:  Reiterating the frail human nature for goodness,  an incident is reported where a bag containing gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 4 lakh  found at Udupi Railway station was returned safely by Railway Police.   Inspector Basappa Lamani and Constable Pramod P, posted at Udupi Station on Konkan Railway route saw a brown colour bag at Platform No 1 on February 21.

No one claimed its ownership, the staff took the trolley bag to the Station Master’s office and prepared the inventory report in the presence of the Station Master.

The bag contained gold ornaments, including four gold chains, one gold necklace, two gold bangles, 13 gold rings of various sizes, six sets of gold ear rings, one packet of ear ring accessories, and two original birth certificates.  The available certificates in the bag indicated the owner of the bag, who traveled with his family by Train No 12620 Matsyagandha Express in S-2 coach.

Their seat numbers in the coach was determined, a message was sent to RPF at Madgaon who contacted the passengers.  The owner of the bag had till then not realised that he had left the bag behind. He said they were returning to Mumbai from their native place Udupi after celebrating the first birthday of their twin daughters. As they were not able to get down from the train and go back to Udupi to collect the bag, he asked his brother-in-law and sister to collect the bag from the RPF at Udupi.  The bag was handed over to the relatives by the RPF after checking identity.  Who says that officials are  unreliable and dishonest now.
