Udupi, Nov 24, 2015:The Nitte University, Nitte Rural Psychiatrists and Nitte Psychiatric Rural Centre, in association with Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations and Institute of Australian Psychiatrists, will organise a two-day international conference on ‘Beyond symptoms control enhancing performance in functioning (Psychiatric Area Related)’ at Nitte in Udupi district from November 27 to 29.

A press release issued here on Monday said that conference will concentrate on the area of psycho-social rehabilitation. Psychiatric patients treated to control their symptoms by medication or psychotherapy required rehabilitation to integrate them back into society and to improve their quality of life.

This can only be done through a structured programme and patients might need longer time in an outpatient rehabilitation setting.

The delegates from across the country and other countries would participate in the conference. Psychosocial rehabilitation experts such as Parameshvara Deva from Malaysia who has started Psychosocial Rehabilitation Programmes in Cambodia, Cooks Island Fiji and Mongolia and Nagesh Pai from Wollangong University, Australia, will share their experiences.

Other psychiatrists too would be delivering lectures. Ramananda Shetty, Vice Chancellor of Nitte University, will inaugurate the conference at 9 a.m. on November 27. N. Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University, will preside over the inaugural function.
