Police seize priceless shivalinga

Honnavar, Dec 23: DCIB Police have confiscated an ancient Shivalinga made of Margaja stone, which was being illegally transported. Three persons were arrested in this regard. 

SI Madhukar Pawar informed media people that a Fiat car along with the precious idol was seized. The arrested are Ashok of Malpe; Ramachandra of Harikandige; and Ramakrishna Hegde of Honnavara. 

The 3 arrested were transporting the idol from Hebri to Brahmhavar. Working on a tip off, the police set a trap for them and nabbed them near Heranje Cross. They 3 had no permit to transport the expensive idol.

The police said that they would consult the Archaeological Department to determine the current market price and historic value of the idol. DCIB Police Inspector Ganesh M Hegde said that the police team that nabbed the trio will be rewarded.
