Police arrest two, seize 5 kg cannabis

Kasaragod, Feb 17, 2017: The Central Crime Branch police on Wednesday arrested two persons on the charge of transporting cannabis in Dakshina Kannada district and seized 5 kg cannabis and three mobile phones worth Rs. 1.66 lakh.

A release here gave the names of the accused as C.H. Abdul Amsad (27), resident of Nettilapadavu, Manjeshwara, and native of Bantwal taluk, and Uday Kumar Rai (30), resident of Mayippadi Guthu House, Madhur, Kasargod, Kerala, and native of Nadiguttu Mane, Yekkur, Kankanadi, Mangaluru.

The police took them into custody when they were allegedly trying to sell ganja near a hotel in Bejai Kapikad under the Urva Police limits. The accused had allegedly procured the contraband from Idukki district in Kerala.

Rai has six cases of drug peddling registered against him in different police stations of Mangaluru as well as Kasargod.

The accused as well as seized cannabis have been handed over to the Urva Police for further action. CCB Police Inspector Sunil Y. Naik, Police Sub-Inspector Shyam Sundar were part of the team.
