Pejavar Shree to go on indefinite fast

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Jan 16: Shree Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt said during a press conference organized on Jan 14 that he will go on an indefinite fast if the CM, the MPs, and the MLAs do not drop the proposed 2nd stage of the Special Economic Zone project at Mangalore.

The people of Mangalore have already lost 1,800 acres of land to this project. The 2nd stage of this project requires 2,035 acres of land. The CM, who was convinced about the problems that will be created because of SEZ, had promised to drop the 2nd phase of the project. In spite of the CM’s promise, 15 acres of land has already been acquired for the 2nd stage of SEZ.

The Swamiji said that the officers concerned have issued notices to owners of 4 acres of land in Permuda. He warned the officials concerned that he would go on an indefinite fast at the Permude Temple from Feb 4 if the 4 acres of land is acquired.

He also said that he will not support the Nagarjun Thermal Power Plant till experts review the project and submit a report about it.  The issue has already been discussed with the home minister who has assured that he will have the Nagarjuna Thermal Power project reviewed by experts.
