Nationwide ’Vehicle Jatha’ flagged off in part

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Aug 23, 2016: DK district-level three-day vehicle jatha organised by CITU, AITUC, INTUC and other labour unions was flagged off at service bus stand in State Bank Circle, Mangaluru, recently, in connection with the nationwide stir call given by the labour organisations on September 2.

The jatha will move to various places in the district from Wednesday to Friday and will create awareness on the importance of the nationwide stir. Flagging off the vehicle jatha, Hind Mazdoor Sabha state President Sureshchandra Shetty said rigorous struggles have become inevitable to protect the rights of labourers today. Labourers are facing a great difficulty as jobs in public sector are being cut in a large scale and their salaries are also decreased. He urged the government to implement laws ensuring a minimum salary of Rs 18,000 per month to the labourers.

CITU state unit Secretary Vasanth Acharya said that even though labourers contribute immensely to the nation’s revenue, they are being suppressed by weakening the labour laws. Criticising that the capitalists are being provided concessions and the common man is burdened, he said the laws favouring capitalists and corporates are being framed by the government.

CITU district unit Secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal said the nationwide stir on September 2 will act as a warning call to the central government. The government has turned a deaf ear to the woes of the labourers, even though movements are being held repeatedly.

The vehicle jatha progressed towards Thokkottu, Deralakatte, Mudipu, Vittal, Kalladka, B C Road and reached Bantwal on Wednesday evening. On Thursday, the jatha will visit Puttur, Sullia, Kadaba, Uppinangadi, Ujire and Belthangadi. On Friday, the jatha will move to Venur, Moodbidri, Kaikamba, Bajpe, Kinnigoli, Mulki, Suratkal, Baikampadi and will culminate at Kulur.
