Nanomaterials vital in day-to-day life

Dec 18, 2017: Department of Physics, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) Mangaluru, with Association of Physics Teachers University of Mangalore (APTU), organised a national conference on Nano, Cryo, and Space Physics (NCSP-2017).

Prof Shivaprasad, a senior scientist at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Science Research (JNCASR) delivered the keynote address. He narrated the importance of Nanomaterial application in our day-to-day life and its future possibilities.

Rev Dr Dionysius Vas, Rector, St Aloysius College Institution, stressed the importance of basic sciences and how it impacts the society.

Dr Ishwara Bhat, convener of the conference, spoke about the importance of such seminars to help fuel inquisitiveness in students and also enlisted the role of St Aloysius College and the Department of Biotechnology, Government Of India in such activities.

Principal Rev Dr Praveen Martis presided over the inaugural programme.

Technical sessions on the use of Nanotechnology were conducted by Dr Shivarasad. Dr Durgesh Nadig, scientist, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, delivered a lecture on ‘Recent trends in Cryo Engineering,’ while ISRO Public Relations Officer Dr Guruprasad spoke on ‘India’s Magnificent Journey to Mars’.
