Mega 3-day event Amruta Mahotsava to commence on Dec 25

Udupi, Dec 23: Amruta Mahotsava will be celebrated on the joint occasion of Idagunji Mahaganapathi Yakshagana Mandali’s platinum jubilee and the birth centenary of the late Keremane Shivaram Hegde. This Idagunji Mela will be a mega 3-day event of social and cultural significance; and will commence on Dec 25 at Gunavante in Honnavar. 

Speaking at a press conference organized on Dec 21, Monday, Keremane Shivanand Hegde, the director of Idagunji Mela, said that Shri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt will inaugurate the Amruta Mahotsava on Dec 25, at 4:30 p.m. by unveiling Keremane Shambhu Hegde’s statue. Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, the secondary education minister, will inaugurate the birth centenary celebrations of Keremane Shivaram Hegde. Dr. M Prabhakar Joshi will deliver the keynote address. 

The annual drama festival, organized by Idagunji Mela, will be inaugurated on Dec 25, at 7 p.m. Renowned stage artistes are expected to participate in this theatrical programme. Veerappa Moily, the union minister for law and justice, will inaugurate the open air theatre. R V Deshpande, the president of the Karnataka Congress Commitee, will dedicate the open air theatre to the public. 

A Mohan Rao, the general manager of Corporation Bank, will inaugurate the exhibition. Pradip Kumar Kalkura, the president of the DK Kannada Sahitya Parishad, will release “Keremane Shambhu Hegde Memories.” Jayanth Kaikini, the writer, will release “Amruta Putthali.” 

The Amruta Mahotsava will include a number of seminars and programmes. The Keremane Shivaram Hegde Award will be conferred on Hostota Manjunath Bhagawath. Venkatachalapathi, the Bangalore-based sculptor; Maranakatte Krishnamurthy Manja, the entrepreneur; and Kollur Narasimha Bhat, the arts patron, will be honored on this occasion. Besides, a number of other Yakshagana artistes will be honored.

The valedictory function will be organized at 3:30 p.m. on Dec 27. Kumble Sundar Rao, the president of the Karnataka Yakshagana Academy, will preside over the programme in the presence of Sonda Swarnahalli Shri Gangadharendra Saraswathi Swamiji. Dr. V S Acharya, the home minister, and other dignitaries will be present.
