Mangaluru, May 20, 2016:  Presently the most welcomed news is that the city’s water woes may end sooner with Thumbe Vented Dam in Bantwal taluk receiving water inflows due to rains in the catchment areas from may 20, Friday.


Water from Nekkilady Vented Dam in Belthangady taluk are seen to replenish water  levels at the dam raising hope that the water woes may be controllable.  On May 20,  Friday, the water level was at 3.9 ft in spite of 24 hour pumping to the city on May 18,  Wednesday night.

The gates of Nekkilady dam were opened on may 17,  Tuesday midnight following DK  District in charge minister B Ramanath Rai’s orders on Monday. On May 20,  Friday, three gates have been opened and the level at Nekkilady dam is above 4 ft. Nekkilday dam is the drinking water supply source to Puttur town.
