Mangaluru, Feb 16, 2018: A media note from Palakkad Division PRO said that the Union budget has allotted a sum of Rs 66.71 lakh for the development of new Passenger Reservation building at Mangaluru Central Station. Though the work was sanctioned in the past, the tender was opened recently.
A sum of Rs 75 crore has been allotted for the ongoing doubling work between Mangaluru Junction and Panambur. Further, an amount of Rs 21 crore has been allotted for the Netravathi-Mangaluru Central (1.5 km) doubling work.
The release said that the Budget has made provisions to improve, enhance and modify passenger amenity facilities in Southern Railway and Palakkad division in particular. Funds have been sanctioned for foot overbridges at Kannur, Vadakara and Kasaragod stations.
An umbrella sanction of 300 crores has been conveyed for soft upgrades and improvements at stations for Southern Railway. Soft upgrades include charging of points, seats/benches/façade, circulating area improvements, landscaping, drinking water, parking, signages etc, at stations. Rs 68.91 lakh has been allotted for the platform shelter work at Vadakara and Kasaragod stations.
