Mangalore simulates Asia’s largest human heart beat - a record

Mangalore, Sep 29, 2014:    At a programme held as a prelude to the World Heart Day run organised by KMC, Mangalore, in association with MRPL. The Heart day run kicked off at the premises of Dr T M A Pai Convention Centre in Mangalore on September 28. The people tapped their thighs 72 times per minute, to imitate the sound of heartbeat, simultaneously uttering the words ‘lub dub’.

The simulation went on continuously for 300 seconds. The heart beat simulation by 2500 plus people, fetched KMC, Mangalore, a place in ‘Asia Book of Records’ for organising Asia’s largest human heart beat simulation. Heart Day is observed on September 29.

Dr Sunita Dhote represented the Asia Book of Records as the adjudicator of the event. She made it official that the event has become the largest heart beat simulation in Asia and presented the certificate to KMC Pro Chancellor V Surendra Shetty.

International athlete Clifford Joshua was the torch bearer for the Heart Day run. The run which started from T MA Pai Convention Centre, passed through M G Road - P VS Circle - Bunts Hostel Circle and concluded at K M C Hospital, Ambedkar Circle.  Actor Sharmila Mandre, KMC Pro Chancellor V Surendra Shetty, Dean Venkatraya Prabhu, Medical Superintendent Dr Anand Venugopal, Dental College Dean Dr Dilip Nayak, Unit Head Sagir Siqquique and others were present.

Nitte university  :   Nitte University, K S Hegde Hospital department of cardiology and cardio thoracic surgery, Indian Medical Assoiation Dakshina Kannada unit had organised marathon walk on the occasion of World Heart Day celebrations from Ram Bhavan Complex.  The walk was flagged off by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.

The walk passed through Karangalpady-Bunts Hostel-Ambedkar Circle-IMA hall.  Speaking on the occasion, the MP said that all should have concern towards health. Nitte University Chancellor NVinay Hegde said that good health is essential for building ahealthy society.  Nitte University Pro Chancellor Dr Shantharam Shetty, IGP (Western Range) Amrit Paul, Police Commissioner R Hitendra among others were present.

Omega hospital  :  The Omega Hospital observed Heart day celebrations by organising a free cradiac and diabetic check-up camp at its premises.  The medical check-up camp  included blood examinations, blood pressure, ECG, Echo Cardiogram and diet counseling.

Indiana hospital  :  Indiana hospital observed Heart Walk - ‘Walkathon.’ The walkathon covered a distance of 1.5 kms on the main roads of the city and culminate at the hospital premises. Mayor Mahabala Marla flagged off the walkathon. MUDA former chairman Tejomaya, Indiana hospital Director Dr Yusuf Kumble among others were present.

September 29, is observed as "Heart Day".
