Mangalore University to go ’on-line’ for PG entrance from 2017-18

Mangalore, Oct 21, 2016:  It is reported that to make admission process in MU easier for higher education aspirants, MU, Mangalore University will conduct entrance examination for all PG courses online from next academic year.

Various departments of Mangalagangothri and other affiliated colleges, so far used to conduct entrance examinations at their campus. "This was time consuming as the candidates had to travel to the campus, just to appear for the exam. So we have decided to conduct entrance exams online in various districts/state headquarters," said K Byrappa, vice-chancellor, Mangalore University.

He said aspirants from Kundapur area can write the exam at a college there, which has computer lab facilities. Exam can also be conducted district-wise, depending on the number of applications received from that region, he added.

"Provision will be made for students from other states to attend the exam. Centres will be chosen after location-wise segregation of applications," Byrappa said adding results won’t be delayed.  The varsity has already held a meeting with various stakeholders to take suggestions about the new entrance examination process.  "We will soon invite tender for this process so that everything is ready by the next academic year," he added.

Each year, the number of applicants, especially for conventional courses such as chemistry, physics, mathematics and commerce, has been increasing. Of late, the varsity has been attracting students from abroad too.

As many as 2,000 plus applications were received this year for 953 seats in 30 science courses in Mangalagangothri, PG Centre Chikka Aluvra, University College, Hampankatta, Mangaluru and FMKMC College campuses. "It’s high time that we go for online examination process and save time for students."
