Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 28: The Syndicate of Mangalore University held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the various circumstances regarding a 10-day protest staged by the MCJ students who demanded immediate removal or transfer of M P Umeshchandra. Reportedly, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, who supported the students, pressurized the Syndicate to meet and discuss the issue once again. A previous Syndicate meeting held on Jan 23 had failed to resolve the matter.

The Syndicate requested the MCJ students to end their protest and return to class. It also requested Prof M P Umeshchandra to refrain from teaching till the Syndicate decides otherwise. It decided to make alternative teaching arrangements for the students.

Santhosh, the student leader, said that the students are yet to reach a decision on whether to continue the protest or not. S P Ananda, the district president of the Dalit Sangharsha Samithi (Ambedkar Vada), was pleased with the decision of the Syndicate.

Various dalit organizations, including DSS, had launched an agitation under the banner “DK District SC/ST Organizations’ Federation” demanding that strict action must be taken against the protesting students.
