Man from Puttur stranded in Yemen

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, April 2, 2015 : With no clarity on his rescue from strife-torn Yemen, a young HVAC engineer from Puttur, Rajesh Gowda (26), was so tense on Wednesday that he was in no mood to talk and has asked his relatives not to share his mobile number with anyone.

Indians stranded there are living in fear amid frequent gun-fight sounds. “The situation is very serious. He is very worried. He does not want to talk to anyone,” said his brother-in-law Radhakrisna Nandila, a construction businessman in Puttur.

What has worsened the situation on Wednesday, according to him, is that a flight that was meant to lift about 400 Indians from Sana, where Mr. Gowda and others are located, was cancelled reportedly due to damage caused to runway of the airport. They were asked to return from the airport. Now they do not know how they would be evacuated.

Son of a farmer, the Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Engineer from Kadaba near Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district was in Yemen for the last three years working for MAM International Corporation. He had returned recently to Yemen after month-long annual holiday visit here.

His relatives have been desperately trying to get in touch with the district authorities to get any information that can bring some comfort to Mr. Gowda and the family back here.
