Puttur, Jan 17, 2015:  A large number of people gathered in Puttur where Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Friday organised a Virat Hindu Sangam at the Mahalingeshwara Temple grounds.

Nearly 1,500 policemen and Rapid Action Force personnel had been deployed to provide security to the event. The movement of traffic had been barred on the main road of the town since afternoon.

Uniform civil code

Speaking at the event, Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s International Working President Praveen Togadia demanded a uniform civil code and said that the two-child norm should be implemented across all communities.

He also sought a ban on polygamy. Mr. Togadia said the governments should make the two-child norm applicable to all and deny facilities such as ration card or voting rights to those who have more than two children.

“If you (government) cannot do it, we have to call upon our youth to have three children.”

Mr. Togadia said that the number of Hindus should be bolstered and added that he would greet wholeheartedly anybody who adopts Hinduism, which, he said, was “the way of life”.

Mr. Togadia said they would not allow any Hindu woman to be a victim of “Love Jihad” and that they would strongly oppose any move to change her religion.

Defending the “Ghar Wapsi” initiative, VHP Dakshina Pranta Pramukh Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat said it was a ceremony to welcome to the community those who belonged to it.
