MCJ students will go on hunger strike from Monday

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 24: The Syndicate, the highest decision-making body of the Mangalore University, has failed to put an end to the MCJ students’ protest. The students said that they could not accept the university’s decisions in this regard and that they would go on hunger strike from Monday till the lecturer was removed from his position. They said that their parents will also participate in the protest.

The students’ had launched the protest against their lecturer M P Umeshchandra more than 7 days back. They demanded his immediate removal because he was harassing students.

The lecturer, however, claims that he is innocent. The Mangalore University says that it has made all attempts to settle the issue amicably, in spite of which the students’ insist on continuing their agitation.

K K Achari, the vice chancellor in-charge of the Mangalore University, informed press people that the Syndicate was eager to settle the issue amicably. Even Mr. Umeshchandra was cooperative with the Syndicate and has agreed to request the students’ to return to their classes.

The lecturer had already appealed to the students once without success, said Mr. Achari. He also said that he was not aware of these developments because of his absence from the campus. He said that students’ must return to the classes immediately because prolonged absence from the classes isn’t good for their academic progress.
