Mangaluru :   Minister for Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader July 5, stated there were  plans  to send MBBS students to other States for the mandatory one-year rural service.  He told media that with the Karnataka Compulsory Service Training for those who completedMBBS,   Medical Courses Act, 2012, coming into effect from this year, 6,675 students, who had completed MBBS course, would have to do rural service.

Deputing these students to primary health centres, for health education scheme meant for health check-up of students and other related needs, around 1,000 students would need to find a place and  number is set to  increase in the future.   The Minister said he was proposing to the Union Health Ministry for deputing these students to rural areas in States that had a shortage of doctors. States that want these graduates would have to pay them stipend.   This proposal will go to the Union Ministry after the Belagavi session of the legislature.
