Lions Club organizes free medical check-up camp

Mangalore, Jan 3: The Lions, Lionesses, and Leo Club of Mangalore organized a free diabetes, eye, and blood pressure check up camp on Jan 3, 2010, which was inaugurated at 8:30 a.m. in the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School, Babugudda, in Mangalore. 

Ln. Alwyn Patrao, the district governor of MJF, as well as Ln. Dr. Austin D’Souza Prabhu, the former district governor of Lions 1-A Dist. USA PDG, along with the other dignitaries on the dais inaugurated the eye camp. 

In his inaugural speech, Ln. Alwyn Patrao said that Mrs. Lns. Nynette Tellis, the president of the Lioness Club, and her team are bent upon serving the poor. He stressed the importance of serving the poor and meeting their requirements. 

Dr. Ln. Austin D’Souza related the story of Helen Keller. It was she who inspired the Lions to offer their support to the American Foundation for the Blind, he said. He urged the audience to donate generously and to help the poor. 

Lns. Nynette Tellis proposed the vote of thanks. Ln. J. K. Rao, Ln. Dr. Austin D’Souza Prabhu, Ln. Kishore Rao, Ln. Dr. Jayaram Shetty, Ln. M Arun Shetty, and many other dignitaries were on the dais. 

Mr. Rathan was the master of ceremonies. The free eye, blood pressure, and diabetes camp was sponsored by K S Hegde Charitable Hospital.
