Language academies need members from coast earliest

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, June 21,2017: Reports say that  AICC member P V Mohan has expressed concern over dilly dallying on part of the government to appoint chairpersons and members of three language academies functioning out of this coastal city. Describing the development as pitiable, Mohan said the Tulu, Beary and Konkani Sahitya Academies have made their own creative and noticeable contribution to the cultural arena in the three coastal districts of Karnataka and it is rather strange that such bodies are presently without a full-fledged team of office bearers.

Academies are voice of the cultural world and it is imperative for the state government to shed its indifference over appointment of members and chairpersons to the bodies, Mohan said. The academies, set up when M Veerappa Moily was the chief minister have in their own inimitable way enriched the cultural and literary spheres of the languages with their own stream of activities, he said, adding they have contributed in their own way to upholding, nurturing and developing the language and its cause and this is very significant.

The academies in their own way have helped rejuvenate the culture by upholding similarities that exists in these languages, he said adding that it does not behove the government to be indifferent to their contribution. This is nothing by an affront to the cultural world of the coastal districts, he surmised. Noting that all creative works - publication, seminars, workshops - in these academies have come to a standstill, he said the government must realise the gravity of the situation and act in right earnestness.
