Lancy Pinto Nayak bags Daiji Dubai Literary Puraskar 2010

Dubai, December 14: According to Daiji Dubai’s latest media release, Mr. Lancy Pinto Nayak, the renowned Konkani novelist and activist, has been selected to receive the prestigious Daiji Dubai Literary Puraskar 2010. The recommendation of the selection committee of this award was discussed at the general body meeting of Daiji Dubai at Shezan Restaurant, Karama, Dubai, on Dec 10, Thursday at 8:30 p.m. The selection committee comprised Mr. Dayan D’Souza, Mr. Stany, Nirude, and Dinesh Correa. Daiji Dubai is a forum of Konkani writers who work in Dubai.

Lancy Pinto Nayak was born on Dec 13, 1955 in Kinnigoli. Later, his family moved to Kulshekar in Mangalore. He published his first story in Mithr, a weekly Konkani magazine, in 1972. This marked the beginning of a successful literary career. He has to his credit more than 200 short stories, 10 novels, 33 skits and plays, 100 articles, and numerous poems, reviews, and interviews. His novel “Chedun” won the Late Louis Mascarenhas Birth Centenary Award in 1989. His work “Patim Golphak” won the Konkani Bhasha Mandal Award, Goa, in 1991. His popular play “Airik Soirik” won many prizes from Kala Sampath, Mangalore. The same play also bagged the Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy Award and Dr. T M A Foundation Book Award in 1997. 

The Daiji Dubai Literary Puraskar Award 2010 will be conferred on Lancy Pinto Nayak during the Daiji Dubai annual day celebrations on April 9, 2010. The award comprises a purse of Rs 50,000, a citation, and a certificate of honor. 

During the occasion of the annual day, a Konkani comedy “Kasale Grahachar Saiba,” written by Stan Ageira and directed by Pradeep Barboza, will be staged by the Daiji Rangmandir group of artists.
