Mangaluru, June 16, 2018: A 21-year-old labourer drowned in a pond, meant for rearing prawns, in Marakada under Kavoor police station limits on on June 15, Friday.

The Kavoor police have identified the deceased as Mutta, 21, a native of Badami.

The police said that Mutta was among some labourers who joined for work 10 days ago at the aqua culture facility run by Rajesh Poojary, brother of Kavoor Councillor Deepak Poojary.

On June 15, Friday morning, Mutta, who did not know to swim, reportedly entered into one of the four ponds meant for prawn culture. He got caught in the water that was about six feet in depth.

Colleagues, who saw Muttu in the water, rushed and fished him out of the water.

Muttu was declared dead when he was taken to a nearby hospital. The police said a case of unnatural death was registered with the Kavoor police.
