Kuchikad Road to be renamed Flight Lieutenant Ronald Kevin Serrao Road

Mangalore, Jan 16: A programme to formally rename Kuchikad Road, Kulshekar, to Flight Lieutenant Ronald Kevin Serrao Road will be jointly organized by the Mangalore City Corporation and the Dakshina Kannada District REtired Soldiers Association (DRSA) on Jan 17 at Kuchikad Road. 

During a pres conference organized on Jan 15, Friday, Colonel N Sharath Bhandary said that MLA N Yogish Bhat will inaugurate the programme. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mayor M Shankar Bhat, Commissioner Dr K N Vijayaprakash, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Fr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, DC V Ponnuraj, SP Dr. A. S. Rao, Corporator Mariamma Thomas, and DRSA President Dr. Radhakrishna Shetty will be the guests. 

Flight Lieutenant Ronald Kevin Serrao, son of Dr. Jessica Serrao and Retired Lieutenant Colonel John Noel Serrao died when he was practicing bombing sorties at Pokhran Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan on Jan 18, 2007. 

The DRSA had submitted a memorandum before the MCC and the district administration to rename Kuchikad Road as Flight Lieutenant Ronald Kevin Serrao Road as a mark of gratitude to a brave solider. The MCC approved the proposal and later, on Dec 10, 2008, the government approved it. 

Jan 17 is the birth anniversary of Flight Lieutenant Ronald Kevin Serrao, which is why the renaming programme will be organized on Jan 17. 

Retired Lieutenant Colonel John Noel Serrao and Dr. Radhakrishna Shetty were present during the press conference.
