Keonics to expand cyber lab and activities

Mangaluru, May 26, 2015 :  Interacting with media,  on May 25 Monday, Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (Keonics) Chairman U B Venkatesh stated that Keonics, in association with NEC of Japan, will upgrade cyber lab in Mangaluru and will set up a new lab at Bengaluru shortly.

  He said the MoU is likely to be signed in June in this regard. Modalities on how to upgrade and link Mangaluru centre with Bengaluru and what kind of training to be initiated is being worked out. The legal agreement terms for the MoU are being prepared.

State-owned Keonics, under IT/BT Department, is the technical nodal agency for the project. NEC was selected as partner for the project considering the company’s expertise in cyber security and its technology is providing human resource for setting up Interpol’s digital crime centre at Singapore and some parts of the world.

  Keonics is also planning to enter into a tie up with HP in training youth from rural areas who fail to get selected in campus interviews conducted at various places. To begin with a centre would be set up in Bengaluru.

HP will in association with Keonics impart training to the youth in vocabulary, writing skills and help in upgrading their skills , so that they could be immediately absorbed by the firms. The duration of such training will be six to 12 weeks. The modalities will be worked out and will be finalised within three months, he explained.

 Mangaluru IT park  :  Keonics Chairman said that the Keonics is planning to set up an IT park in Mangaluru on its 3.5 acre land at Kuntikana. The Keonics owned five acre land, of which, 1.5 acre was given to STPI. He stated, Mangaluru is a developed city, IT parks should have come long back. Talks will be held on the requirements and proceed further with firms.  Keonics  has IT parks in Shivamogga and Kalaburgi.

Twenty firms across India were identified, of which, seven have been shortlisted for entering into a collaboration to increase the activities of Keonics. A final decision on the same will be taken up in a meeting scheduled to be held at Bengaluru on May 28.
