Kadaba in DK reports highest rainfall of 38.50mm in Karnataka

Mangaluru, Mar 03, 2015:  Kadaba in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada district recorded maximum rainfall of 38.50mm in the last 24-hours up to 8.30am on March 2. Varuna hobli in Mysuru taluk of Mysuru district recorded maximum temperature of 36.4°C on March 1 at 3pm. Bidar South hobli in Bidar taluk of Bidar district recorded lowest minimum temperature of 12.5°C at 9.15am on March 2.

More than 90% relative humidity has been recorded in 44% geographical area in the state. Less than 25% of relative humidity has been recorded in 0.4% geographical area in the state. Rainfall over the state is considered as scattered since 28% of the hoblis and gram panchayats recorded rainfall of =2.5mm. Moderate rainfall was recorded in 48 gram panchayats, light rain in 271 gram panchayats, very light rain in 373 gram panchayats, and no rainfall was recorded in remaining 1,830 gram panchayats across Karnataka.

Karnataka for period from February 24 to March 2 recorded surplus rainfall of 586%. Against normal weighted average rainfall of 0.9mm in south-interior, north-interior, malnad and coastal parts, state recorded rainfall of 4.8mm. For 24-hours period ending 8.30am on March 2, four geographical regions received 1.5mm actual weighted average rainfall against normal weighted average rainfall of 0mm, a 15300% surplus departure from the weighted-average normal. The unusual rainfall is to be studied by scientists nation wide.
