KMC blood bank receives NABH accreditation

Mangalore, Jan 6: The Kasturba Medical College Hospital blood bank will receive the National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Healthcare Providers (NABH) Certificate at a special function organized at the Dr. TMA Pai Convention Center on Jan 6, Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m. 

The KMC Blood Bank, which was established on Oct 2, 1991, is open for 24 hours daily. It comprises 4 refrigerators to store blood; and currently, the hospital stores 1,500 units of blood. 

NABH is a national institution that aims to meet the various requirements of patients. NABH accreditation is synonymous with top notch patient care. The institution verifies the high standard of the medical practices followed in various medical institutions or hospitals. In order to get a NABH accreditation, the hospital or medical institution must present the relevant documents. The hospitals must also follow the regulations and procedures set by the NABH. 

In addition, NABH organizes annual renewal of the certificates, after first ascertaining if the medical institution or hospital in question is following all the rules, regulations, practices, and procedures set by it.

The honorary guests will be MLA Yogish Bhat, the pro chancellor of Manipal University; Dr H S Ballal; and Rajan Padukone, the chief executive officer of Manipal Health Systems.
