JD(U) demands absorbing casual labour in Mescom

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, July 5, 2015: Janatha Dal United District president Harish Alva demanded the State government to regularise around 200 Mazdoor workers working on contract basis for Mescom from past six years in the district. The party has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the DK DC  against the recruitment being done by the Mesom neglecting these workers and also warned of  court action.

Speaking to media July 4, Harish Alva said Mescom had recruited youth on the basis of education qualification of seventh standard six years ago. They had to do eight hours of hard labour with minimum salary.  Now, the government has released a fresh notice  calling 2,500 recruits, and decided to discontinue the service of those young men who were already in service. This action of the government would create difficulties and is an injustice to the local families. These workers, most who have finished only primary school are not in a situation to continue their education.  They are either not eligible to apply for jobs because of age bar and the new education qualification for lineman post is SSLC.

The government should provide social justice by giving preference to the contract labourers who were already serving. Alva warned that if  no positive response comes from the government,  a writ petition would be filed in the High Court.  JD(U) General Secretary Vishanth D’Souza and others were present.
